The Equity Silver mine is located approximately 40 km south of Houston in north-central B.C. and operated from 1980 to 1994. Mining took place in three open pits and a small underground mine. In addition to silver, copper and gold were extracted from this site. However, by 1968, the last commercial gold mining operations were suspended in California due to the low price of gold and high production costs. Over the 120 year period, thousands of mines were prospected, developed, worked and then abandoned throughout the state.
